Miley Cyrus may have officially retired her twerking.  She showed up at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, stepping away from the spotlight and toward a charitable cause.

When her name was called for the night's biggest honor of Video of the Year, Miley let a young man named Jesse do the talking for her.  He represents one of Los Angeles' homeless young people.

The young man stood onstage shaking, as presenter Jimmy Fallon held his microphone and Miley sat perched on the stage nearby with tears streaming down her face.  Jesse asked viewers to see her Facebook page, where Miley posted a video about a homeless youth shelter in Hollywood called My Friend's Place.
