Akron drowning victim identified

(Akron) - Akron and Cuyahoga Falls Fire rescue crews found a body in the Mud Brook Creek Sunday morning.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office says the remains have been positively identified as 12-year-old Nicholas Shaffer of Hemlock Hills Drive in Akron.

Shaffer was sitting on a wall adjacent to the creek with his mother when he jumped into the Mud Brook Creek behind his home last Thursday.

He was swept away by the violently raging waters. Shaffer suffered from autism. His body was found about 11:20 a.m. Sunday.
