Another internet cafe closed

(Cleveland) -- Even though they keep "popping up like mushrooms," Cuyahoga County prosecutor Tim McGinty says 52 out of 52 known internet cafes in the county have been closed by police.

McGinty made that announcement Wednesday while standing in front of the Lucky Palms Internet Cafe at East 67th and Saint Clair on Cleveland's east side. It was a 24-hour operation that McGinty says has been especially taking the money of "little old ladies."

The legislature has passed a law that effectively bans such storefront sweepstakes parlors, but supporters of the internet cafes are trying to get a measure on the ballot that would repeal the law and simply put more controls on them. There are as many as 600 internet cafes operating statewide.

McGinty says a man was arrested in connection with the closure of the Lucky Palms, and a "large gun" that he was carrying was also seized.
