(Cleveland)- A house fire on E. 160 killed one man on Sunday morning, according to the Cleveland Fire Department. It is the first fire-related fatality of 2013 in Cleveland.

Firefighters arrived at the two-family home just before 8:00 a.m. and discovered smoke coming from the first floor windows. Upon entering the home, a male victim was found on the first floor.

Second floor residents were able to leave the home before firefighters arrived. There were no working smoke detectors on the first floor.

Larry Gray with Cleveland Fire says that investigators are still on scene determining a cause of the fire.

He also recommends other residents take precautions in the wake of the incident.

"We just ask residents to check their smoke detectors," Gray says. "And always practice an escape plan.
