Accusing Mayfield Hts. stabber arraigned

(Cleveland) - Bond has been set at $1 million for the man accused in a triple stabbing that took place last week in Mayfield Heights.

Matthew Cepik faces three counts of attempted murder, aggravated burglary, six counts of felonious assault (two for each victim) and tampering with evidence. Cepik pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday.

Mayfield Heights Police say Cepik is accused of breaking into a condo at 1390 Golden Gate Boulevard and stabbing three people September 1.

He allegedly stabbed a mother, daughter and a family friend. The victims were taken to Hillcrest Hospital.

One of the victims identified the suspect as her former boyfriend, Matthew Cepik. Police got a description of Cepik's white Kia Optima and put out an alert to other police departments.

Cepik's unoccupied vehicle was found by Solon Police at 5525 Harper Rd. at 5:56 AM and officers began searching the wooded area with dogs.

At around 7:40 AM, Cepik was apparently struck by a vehicle on Route 422. Solon Police say it appears Cepik deliberately ran in front of the box truck, driven by a 30-year-old Maple Heights resident.

Cepik was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
