(Peninsula) - The government shutdown has postponed the popular Towpath Marathon.
The Towpath Marathon was scheduled to wind through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park on Sunday, October 13. But the federal shutdown has closed the CVNP, meaning runners can't use the park.
As long as the shutdown ends, the Towpath Marathon will now be run November 3.
Ohio Canal Corridor Executive Director Tim Donovan says that should give elected officials enough time to "right the ship". The date also takes advantage of the Daylight Savings Time change, adding an extra hour of daylight.
And if the government shutdown isn't over by then? There's a second backup date of November 10.
Donovan hopes the runners stay with them. He tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 that some runners may not be able to make the new date, and they will all be contacted.
