Even Cleveland's casino is closed

(Cleveland) -- Thousands of school kids in Greater Cleveland have had their holiday break extended for another day or two because of the frigid cold conditions expected through Wednesday morning because of the predicted Arctic air coming down across Canada.

Roads on Monday morning were not as bad, as there was some sleet overnight, but it was covered by snow, and road crews have been out salting and plowing major roads.

Starting later in the day Monday, expect a big change as the Arctic air starts to plunge south.

In an unprecedented move, the Horseshoe Casino in downtown Cleveland closed at 3 a.m. Monday because of expected weather conditions and will be closed until further notice. ThistleDown Racino is open with a limited staff and no dining options.

One woman who talked to WTAM at the RTA Park and Ride in North Olmsted said she's ready for cold weather, wearing the right clothing. Another man told our Julie Courtright early Monday that he's been in the Cleveland area 50 years, and he's ready for the cold.

If you have a flight in or out of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, expect delays. Nearly all United Express flights from Hopkins are canceled, and as many as 50% of regular United flights are canceled, not just due to frigid weather expected here, but also due to weather problems in other cities.
