(Cleveland) - The Ice Bucket Challenge has been a tremendous boost for the ALS Association. So explains Mary Wheelock, executive director of the Northern Ohio Chapter.
Wheelock says since the Challenge started they have raised over $418,000, more than 4 times the amount of money they usually collect during the same time span.
Nationally, donations have surpassed $100 million dollars. Private donations are now their number one funding source eclipsing federal grants.
Wheelock tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 that the Ice Bucket Challenge has also raised awareness about ALS.
Groups are calling everyday requesting ALS speakers. Before the Challenge started, they would only receive a handful of calls a year.
